Usability Testing
Testing my prototyped design with members of my target audience, is extremely important when developing a project. This helps to understand the users needs and gain feedback to ultimately improve the design further.
1. Plan Test
Initial briefing welcoming participants to the IBS informative solution, Grumble Tum including a brief description of the project and explanation into the project’s aims and outcomes.
Set specific tasks which allows the user to interact with the website/app. These are likely to be information seeking tasks such as, find what is meant by Inflammatory Bowel Disease. This will give me data on how the user’s interact with the navigation bar in order to find this information.
Reflective Survey to be delivered immediately after testing specifying information from each participant about their experiences with the product and improvements they would make. This survey will include a mixture of open and closed questions for a range of data.
3. Recruit Participants
- I will aim to have six participants take part in my user-testing.
- Each participant will be from my target audience and either a sufferer of IBS or an individual that knows someone with IBS.
- There will be a balance in gender, experiences, familiarity with software/similar products, cultural background.
- Around 30 minute test sessions, one participant per test.
- Subjects to be briefed before the test sessions, to put them at ease.
- Video call in order to guide participants if needed, using Zoom or other video conference call platform with recording functionality.
- During the recording, participants must speak their thoughts aloud detailing what they are doing on-screen.
5. Compile Data and Analyse
- Store all data and compile results together for analysis including the recordings of participants verbal reactions ad on-screen interactions.
- Collate similar findings and different findings to understand which part of my project was well received etc.
6. Feedback into changes
- All data will be added to my blog and findings will be documented
- Reflection on data collection
- Use this data to edit my design to meet the needs of my target audience
