Illustrative Logo Designs

I decided to illustrate my logo design ideas for my degree project using Adobe Illustrator. I thought about the letters and whether they could be manipulated to appear like an object related to my topic. The logo design with 'Tum' uses the 'm'. I changed this on two occasions to look like:

  1.  A person sitting while holding their knees - thought they could be having a stomach ache hence their sitting position.
  2. A person sitting while holding their knees with pink typography - this was to make the letters stand out so that the 'm' wasn't lost in the design.
  3. Grumble Tum businessman - as IBS affects both men and women, I thought that the 'm' could look like a man wearing a shirt and tie. The sad face could represent a stomach ache.
Additionally, I illustrated an idea from my original sketches where the 'G' appeared to be a nose and 'r' a frown. I used the font 'Daniel' to achieve this and manipulated the tracking in order for the type to look more like a face.

The problem I had with these designs were that they either didn't look quite the way I wanted them to or it was diffcult to understand the significance of the illustrated letters without context.

Therefore, I decided to be quite literal and illustrated an image of a gut with different faces and colours. Adding shadows really helped this illustration look more professional.

To ensure consistency across all images, I created an illustration style that would fit the style of this logo, I decided to draw a man with a stomachache which I achieved with some difficulty. Unfortunately I am very new to illustrating, previously only producing line drawings, therefore I feel I've made good progress considering this was my first attempt!
