Web Development Team Project
Since September 9th, I have been participating in a Coding Kickstarter course with Code First Girls. This course is an introduction to Web Development. I decided to register because I haven’t practiced much coding while on placement. My internship mainly consisted of design and image manipulation tasks using Sketch and the Adobe Creative Suite, therefore since second year I have only minimally coded in my free time and in the summer. This course focuses on an independent project and a team-working project with other members of the course.
Our team have begun thinking about and discussing our team project.
The project criteria is quite simple however as both of my team members have little web development knowledge, the real challengee will be making sure that all members are able to participate fully and have a good experience during this challenge.
Must have:
- A minimum of 2 HTML pages and 1 external CSS file
- Consistent look and feel across your site
- At least one example of a form
- A Mobile responsive design
- Your website hosted on GitHub page
Nice to have:
- Use of JavaScript for additional functionality
- Persist the values entered from a form into a modal
- Use of best practices when applying classes and IDs
As I have the most web development knowledge, I have naturally fallen into a team-leader role and therefore it will become my responsibility to delegate based on each members strengths.
So far, I have deduced that:
Team Member 1: Has already completed a CodeFirstGirls course on Python and has participated in a hackathon.
Team Member 2: Works in a tech support role and has little knowledge of coding.
Therefore I am considering giving member 1 the responsibility of using JavaScript on our website as they seem more comfortable with functional code and helping team member 2 create pages. Team member 2 could focus on the HTML, CSS and sourcing assets while I focus on the pages structure and layout using Bootstrap as this seemed to be the most confusing element for both members.
This may change but this is the team-structure that sounded the most logical from our first meeting.
We decided to use Figma to collaborate and collate our ideas on our project. We chose to focus on fashion and create a page each dedicated to a particular popular style and how to dress for that style. Basically our website will be similar to an online magazine/fashion blog.
