Who is the user?
Micheal is a 25-year-old junior software engineer who has been recently employed by a large company. He graduated earlier in the year and is proud to have successfully gotten a job in his field of study. Micheal is interested in playing Dungeon and Dragons with his friends, cycling and reading graphic novels. He commutes to work by car and loves to listen to his favourite motivational podcasts while on route. He believes that with hard work and dedication anyone can become successful regardless of their background or difficulties.
Their Goals?
He wants to be successul in his role without the worry of having too many responsibilities or becoming too invested in his work resulting in additional stress and the recurrent stomach problems he experienced throughout University.
Their Motivations?
When finishing work, he drives home where he makes himself dinner and relaxes for the rest of the evening. He is suspicious that the foods he is eating isn't helping his condition and wants to be confident in managing his symptoms.
External Factors?
Micheal wants to research the likely cause of his problems before consulting a doctor, as he isn't able to easily take time off work due to a large scale project being due. Independently he attempts to gain some medical knowledge in the hope of preventing his stomach problems arising. Unfortunately his concerns continue to increase daily as he is incorrectly self-diagnosing himself, causing him to become even more stressed about a potential diagnosis from a qualified doctor. He feels too embarrassed to talk about his stomach problems with his manager as he is new to the company and is unsure whether this will affect his chances of progression.

After reading through medical websites, he finally comes across IBS and IBD which he believes could be causing his problems. When typing these search terms into Google, he finds the website named, 'Grumble Tum'. He smiles at the name of the site which puts him at ease. Entering the website he feels welcomed by the comforting illustrations and is happy that the information is clear and empathic. He sees delicious meals with simple ingredients and recommendations for people with this condition. Seeing the support group linked to the website, he begins to feel more understood as he starts to see other users who have experienced the same symptoms as him. He decides to join the support group after reading through the website while he waits for his doctors appointment scheduled for after his project.
