User Scenario: Claire
Who is the user?
Claire is a 36-year-old Mum who recently gave birth to her second child. She has decided to stay at home with her children as she believes that interacting with them daily will help build a positive relationship and strengthen their bond. As both of her children are under five she has to work hard to meet their needs while completing household chores which can become overwelming.
She's interested in going out for drinks with friends, dramas on Netflix and photography. When the children are asleep, she enjoys scrolling through her favourite her social media parenting pages and the accounts of other Mum's she socialises with weekly. She believes that support from friends and family are extremely important to a happy life and giving back to the community is essential.
Their Goals?
She wants to be a great Mum, but is worried that her condition will cause her to struggle when caring for her children long-term. Currently she relies on her parents to look after her children when her symptoms are at their worst but this is becoming more frequent.
Their Motivations?
Once her children are asleep and she has completed her household chores, Claire wants to feel reassured that she is doing a good job even with her difficulties. She does receive large amounts of support from friends and family however they don't always fully understand her condition. Claire relies on her support system often and feels that she is sometimes a burden to others.
External Factors?
After the birth of her second child, she developed IBS which has been confirmed by numerous tests. Her symptoms become worse when stressful situations arise. When her children are unwell, even with minor problems such as chickenpox, this is guaranteed to cause a flare-up. She knows very little about IBS and how to improve her symptoms. Reading about her condition online on medical websites is overwhelming and time-consuming and she cannot afford private health care to fast-track a treatment plan.
Experience with your product?
While scrolling through her social media, a new recommended account appeared. She discovered that it was a support group for IBS showing photos of meals low in FODMAPs. Realising that the account was linked to a website, she decided to visit the site. She found welcoming, comforting illustrations and especially loved the use of bright colours. She found some simple information about her condition and recommended coping strategies - which she appreciated. She noticed the name of the website, 'Grumble Tum' which made her giggle as she would describe her symptoms to her children using similar language.
