Sharing my Discoveries: Among Us
Recently, popular streamers caused Among Us to surge in popularity. Considering this game was published in 2018, it is quite unusual for this to happen. The premise of the game is similar to a murder mystery plot where a member of your space crew is an imposter attempting to sabotage the ship and secretly kill other crewmates. The aim changes depending on whether you are the imposter or a crewmate.
While playing as a crewmate, you need to observe other player's behaviour and complete tasks on the ship by doing small puzzles. You're only allowed to speak to other crewmates via a chatbox during an emergency meeting or if a player has been killed by the imposter. An emergency meeting can be called if a member suspects another player or can be called by the imposter as a self-report to try and get others off the scent.
While being the imposter you need to either attempt to kill all crewmates or sabotage the ship in order to win. As the imposter you have 'fake tasks' that can be completed and you have the added advantage of hiding in vents (which is obviously suspicious if someone catches you doing this).
With the added social elements, I believe the wide-spread popularity of this game is related to the pandemic as a game of this nature is unique. It's multi-player and easy to play making this an incentive for those who may be in local lockdowns to play with their friends or others online. You don't need to own a specialist console but has the added advantage of being cross-platform, allowing mobile players to play alongside PC players.
