Reflecting on ideas
After some reflection and tutorials with tutors, I have decided that my project is going to be based on my first idea - an informative website and mobile application on IBS. As it's personal to my current situation, I feel I would be able to relate and understand the needs of my target audience. Having this topic as the focus of my project will hopefully benefit fit me in a variety of different ways from:
- Finding out more information on my condition
- Potentially the ability to speak to medical professionals about this topic
- Build my own resilience in talking about my difficulties to others
- Build on my already-exisiting technical knowledge (websites, coding etc.)
- Develop my illustration skills
- Potentially build a successful mobile application or UX app project
As I'm not familiar with JavaScript I would like to be able to write simple commands in my websites that will hopefully be transferable when building my application.
Compared to my other ideas, this is the idea I feel most strongly about. I like to based the topic of my projects on either my personal issues or problems that others have faced. This helps me feel more connected to the project and pushes me to go further when learning new skills.
Although my second idea which was to create an app that enables better communication between flatmates when delegating chores, is based on my previous problematic flatmates. The last time I lived in shared accommodation was two years ago and therefore this idea doesn't quite reasonate with me as much as it used to. The application itself was quite heavy functionality-wise and having no expeience of building apps would have made this project a struggle.
My third idea, a student platform to end unhealthy eating while at University, is something I have witnessed while living on campus. Those who didn't eat properly seemed to be more susceptible to Freshers Flu and other illnesses throughout the year. The type of foods that were eaten weren't part of a balanced diet which I believe was responsible for the energy-loss seen in my flatmates during semester B. This idea would also give me the opportunity to practice video production/editing as I would produce online tutorials for recipes and healthy eating. This project would have been enjoyable however the scope of the project may have become too large. Content creation and planning takes a large amount of time and may have resulted in an incomplete project or an app with minimal content which wouldn't be as useful.
As I feel quite passionate about idea one, this gives me the motivation to learn new skills including in my project.
