Freelance Project

I thought it would be a good idea to share an on-going website redesign that started during the summer of 2020. Unfortunately, as the client is very busy this has slowed down communication drastically and am therefore still in the process of completing this project.

I was recommended to Secure Fire Services through word-of-mouth as they were particularly impressed with Ramsay Safety Solutions' website. To give context this was a Health and Safety website I redesigned for my second-year independent project and have since been recommended to their clients.

Secure Fire Services are a Fire Safety company in St Albans where they supply services and products. Currently, their website is quite outdated and requires numerous click-throughs to visit specific pages.

(Secure Fire Services, n.d.).

A large part of the redesign was to make the website feel modernised with a simplistic design. Therefore I took the risky decision of omitting the red background from the hero banner. I wasn't sure whether the client was attached to the red or whether this colour was prominent in other marketing materials but I decided to go ahead nonetheless. This background colour represents a fire extinguisher which is quite clever however I felt a more neutral colour would feel more trust-worthy to users.

Currently, Secure Fire Services website is hardcoded and would require a web developer to edit even the slightest piece of copy. Therefore, the most important aspect of the website was making it was editable and client-friendly. Usually, I code websites but decided to use Weebly instead by editing an already existing template and making a slight change to the code for the navigation bar so that their phone number was displayed at the top.

The client hasn't provided me with much imagery other than fire extinguishers. Therefore I thought it was important to showcase these products on their homepage. As this project is on-going, once completed I'll create another blog post with the finished website.
