Degree Project: Idea Two
Shared accommodation has many benefits, the main ones include:
- The chance to meet new individuals
- Live with your friends
- More affordable than renting on your own
- Combats loneliness
A problematic period in second year when renting off-campus with two mutual friends sparked an idea which could aid housekeeping and morale in the household.
For those often completing chores and tasks, knowing that:
- Other tenants do not appreciate your efforts
- Are oblivious that other individuals are completing chores on their behalf
- Obviously do not want to participate in the upkeep of the shared living environment
This can be frustrating and de-moralising. To aid communication without ruining friendships this app will help others know who is completing the chores and notify the other tenants of what has been completed.
The app will be gamified to reward those hard-working individuals as each pre-selected chore has a pre-determined value (points). Every tenant's point totals can be traded in for prizes at the end of the week, previously discussed with housemates.
Problems
- Difficult to make this ideas work as a website unless the website was purely informative or promoting the mobile application
Features
- Up to ten users
- Tenants are all added to the same accommodation via pin code, address or another method
- Keeps a record of point totals
- Notifies tenants when a chore has been completed
Target Audience
- Primarily university students or professionals living in shared accommodation
- Secondarily relatives living in the same household
- Not for individuals living independently
An example of the type of project I'm thinking of creating:
HOMEY (2017). Watch your kids learn about money through completing chores and working towards goals. [Online] Available at: https://www.homeyapp.net [Accessed: 4 October 2020]
